LDN Diary 2019:

Updated: Aug 20, 2019

London, home of the crown jewels and over priced coffee. Though I always come back financially struggling, London you have my heart. Here is another diary of me and John's visit to London to celebrate the end of my 1st year of university.

THE HAPPY PLACE:

The Happy Place by Fearne Cotton podcast posters in London ft Maise Williams from Game of Thrones

If you're anything like myself then having a good podcast to listen to whilst travelling is a must. Well, as well as listening to Fearne Cotton's 'Happy Place' podcast on the flight down, me and John also went to go see a live show of the Happy Place where Fearne interviewed Emily Coxhead (writer and creator of the Happy Newspaper), James Bay, and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones star). The podcast in my opinion was exceptional although I may be biased as I already loved the people whom the interviews were based around.

When we first entered the theatre where the event was being held there was a copy of the Happy Newspaper sitting on each member of the audience's seat. This was a great attribute to the event I believe as if you haven't checked it out already then I don't know what you're doing because it's honestly just the most lovely product ever to discusses all the good things that are happening in the world right now and offers a place to allow people to celebrate all the good as oppose to just the bad. The interview with Emily actually turned out to be one of my favourite as it was so inspiring listening to how she started this whole business venture from just her bedroom (hold tight to hear more about this as I am going to dedicate a blog post to her in my monthly favourites.) Next was James Bay who I found equally as inspiring; seen as I am a music student myself I found much of his and Fearne's discussion involving the music industry appealing.

Finally was Maisie Williams interview which was so inspirational hearing how she had managed to hold such a both successful and demanding career from such a young age. They discussed Game of Thrones and also Maisie's new app which has just recently been released. This was interesting, hearing about how she was continuing work after the show had finished.

This podcast is a must and my personal favourite, it makes long journeys more bearable trust me. The podcast also discuss which I believe to be important issues such as creativity, social media and mental health, all topics which I take advice on and have helped me in my day to day life. I'll link both the Happy Newspaper and The Happy Place podcast down at the bottom of this blog for any of you who are interested.

WAITRESS:

So you've probably guessed by now that I can't go to London without seeing at least something at the West End. This time me and John decided to see 'Waitress' which is a relatively new musical in the grand scheme of things which tells the tale of Jenna a waitress pregnant with her horrible husbands baby leading her to have a not so professional relationship with her doctor. This is a very feel good musical and left me feeling hyped at both the interval and when it finished. The soundtrack to this musical also shouldn't be over-looked as there are so many amazing songs such as "she used to be mine." This is such a fab musical to see and would recommend to anybody.

EXPLORING:

Seeing London Bridge during my travel
Of course I had to have a photoshoot

As we have seen most of the sights before this trip was more just to experience London and give ourselves a well deserved break. However we did still manage to squeeze in a few such as Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and London Bridge. Shakespeare's Globe is a perfect attraction to both theatre and history lovers which we both are. We never actually went on the tour as we were on our way to see Waitress at this point and it was just under £20, however we did make sure to take lots pf pictures of the outside.

Similarly, London Bridge is very much just another bridge, however it is very iconic to London and is a very prominent part of the cities skyline making it worth the visit in my opinion.
